How to stay safe

Stay in website

When people message you, you might eventually want to give them your contact information. But we advise you to keep the conversation on our site until you are sure that you want to have a closer relationship.

There are a few reasons you should keep the conversation on the site:

  • We can help you if you have a problem while talking on this website. If you have a problem, like someone is being mean to you, or if they are spamming or posting things that are not allowed, you can let us know by flagging the conversation, or reporting the profile. But if you take the conversation somewhere else, like to email or another website, then you lose that safety.
  • If you give someone your social media account information or your phone number, you lose the ability to block them if they turn out to be someone you don't want to talk to anymore.
  • You should only share your contact information with someone you know well. This is because they will be able to see a lot of information about you on our website. We use a 'friends' system to make sure people get to know each other before sharing personal information.
  • Be careful of people who seem too interested in you. Don't feel pressured to let them into your life. Take your time and get to know them.

Keep your personal information private.

Keep the conversation here until you feel comfortable with a member before telling them information such as your email address, telephone number, address, or social network details.

If you are going to reveal your email address, why not setup a new email account rather than giving your personal email address away.

If you are going to have a telephone conversation with someone, make sure you block your telephone number so they can't see it. If you are unsure how to do this, contact your telephone provider.

If you are going to Telegram or Whatsap with someone, create a new account and don't use your real name.

Follow your instincts.

When you meet someone, your common sense and instincts can help you decide if it is a good idea to pursue a relationship with that person. Love usually happens over time, so if someone you've just met or have been in touch with recently asks you for money, they probably don't have good intentions. Although scams are rare, it's still a good idea to be aware of the warning signals, especially if you have decided to communicate with somebody privately outside of our site.

Meeting offline

When you start to date someone you met online, it is a good idea to meet in person in a public place. This way, you will be safe. Make sure to tell someone where you are going and when you will be back. You should also stay sober and keep your belongings with you.

Has someone asked you for money?

No matter how many messages you have exchanged, how long you have been chatting or how well you think you know the member, if they are asking for money they are almost certainly a scammer. If you have emotionally invested in the relationship it can be difficult to accept, but it is important to remember that if someone is asking for money they are not genuine.
